I wanted to share a little story behind this cake with you. I made the cake just to get more practice decorating and working with fondant. So the week I made it we were having a Revival at my church. I took the cake to church to show my mom and dad and for them to take it home and eat it. Well, some of the ladies at the church saw it and said they needed a cake for dessert for after dinner that was being served. I said to them this was just a "practice cake" and there were some flaws I didn't want others to see. They said the cake was just gorgeous and couldn't believe I was still learning.
As you can see the cake came out okay and I'm getting better as I continue to bake and make cakes. I made the rosebuds by hand and they took me the longest but I think they came out pretty good for my first time.
Next time I make a cake like this I have to make sure I make the rosebuds a few days ahead of time so I can make enough to go all around the cake.
So back to the story.....everyone enjoyed the cake and said it tasted very good and to keep up the good work. I thank God that it was good, what a relief.
I've made a couple more cakes since this one and I will be posting them shortly. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks and happy baking!!
